Yang Zhou is the Assistant Director of UNT's Economics Research Group and Assistant Professor of Economics. He joined UNT in the Fall of 2020. Dr. Zhou specializes in public economics, urban and regional economics, and applied machine learning.

Dr. Zhou has published 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, including Applied Economics, Contemporary Economic Policy, Ecological Economics, Economics of Governance, European Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Institutional Economics, Public Choice, Regional Science and Urban Economics, etc. Dr. Zhou's academic work has won multiple awards including the Don Lavoie Prize in 2019 and the O.P. Alford III Prize in Political Economy in 2016.

Dr. Zhou has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He received his Ph.D. from West Virginia University. He also holds a Masters degree in Economics from King Juan Carlos University in Spain and a Bachelor degree in Economics from the University of Science and Technology of China.
