Dr. Leonard Speaks to Feeding America about Spatial Patterns in Food Insecurity & Health

On November 30, 2017, Dr. Leonard presented the results of a study funded by Feeding America with underwriting from The Howard G. Buffett Foundation. The study was titled " Food Security and Poor Health: Predicting Spatial Cluster Overlaps" and examined the degree to which US counties were likely to experience high rates of food insecurity and poor health outcomes. The findings suggest that food insecurity correlates not only with poor nutrition-related health outcomes such as diabetes, but also with a multitude of other health problems. These overlapping clusters are more likely to occur in counties with high poverty rates and in counties with large African American populations.
